The Power of Music

I am a drummer. I’ve been playing in bands on and off for over 20 years. I got out of it to go back to school and become a programmer. Now I sit at a desk most days and build websites. I love that - I’m good at it and I work with some of the coolest folks on the planet; and some of the best in the business. But it’s not enough.

It’s a rush to see your work on the internet associated with big brands and winning awards for all of your efforts. It’s a whole other thing to move people with the sound of music and to share that feeling with other musicians.

I sat in with a friends band on saturday and played some classic rock for his bosses bike shop grand opening. Being the grand opening for a bike shop there were some interesting characters there to say the least. Songs like “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Fortunate Son” were easily two of the best songs we played that night.

The best part was that the band was made up of guys who live in totally different parts of the province. Two guys from Edmonton, one guy from Canmore and two of us from Calgary. The craziest thing - we’ve never rehearsed, not even once. We’ve played 3 shows now and have been asked to come back and play after each one.

There’s something to be said for jamming out with some other guys and having a blast in a tiny bar somewhere. It’s a great outlet, it’s a huge passion of mine and I hope it never stops.
